Transition is the process students and their families use to think about life after high school, to identify their desired outcomes, and to plan their community and school experiences to assure that the students acquire the knowledge and skills to achieve their goals. The Thrifty Spot, a dynamic thrift store located in the heart of Mathews County, is doing just that. This venture evolved through the efforts of Mathews high School Special Education Department and Mathews County Office of Special Education. Operations and management of The Thrifty Spot, which employs students with diabilities in all areas of retail and consignment business activities, are led by Mathews High School Special Education Department Head, Cathy Walker.
The Thrifty Spot succeeds in its work due to the hard work and enthusiasm of Mathews High School Building Trades students and teachers, community outreach efforts, and generous donations.
The Thrifty Spot is open five days a week (Tuesday - Friday) 9:30 am - 2:30 pm throughout the school year.
The store is also open on the First Friday of the month from 9:30-5:00PM and on the First and Third Saturdays from 9AM-1PM
Donations are always welcome. Please contact Mathews High School at (804) 725-3702 for more information.
